Indications: Plum-pit Qi (梅核气) due to Phlegm accumulation and Qi stagnation, often associated with emotional stress affecting the throat and chest.

Signs & Symptoms: Sensation of something stuck in the throat that cannot be swallowed or expelled, worse with stress or emotions, chest or epigastric fullness, frequent sighing, possible mild cough or nausea, normal swallowing, a thin white or slightly greasy tongue coating, and a wiry or slippery pulse.

Actions of the Main Herbs:
Ban Xia (Pinellia rhizome) dries Dampness and transforms Phlegm, directing rebellious Qi downward.
Hou Po (Magnolia bark) moves Qi, reduces fullness, and relieves chest and abdominal distension.
Fu Ling (Poria) drains Dampness and strengthens the Spleen.
Zi Su Ye (Perilla leaf) regulates Qi and relieves constraint, especially from emotional factors.
Sheng Jiang (Fresh ginger) harmonises the Stomach, assists in transforming Phlegm, and directs Qi downward.

Together, these herbs move Qi, transform Phlegm, and relieve the sensation of obstruction in the throat.

Dosage & Course of Treatment: Take 8–12 pills, three times daily, preferably after meals or as directed by a practitioner. Often used short to medium term, depending on response and underlying emotional triggers.
