Yu Ping Feng San (玉屏風散)
Black Pearl Jade Screen Formula pill 40g
Indications:
Deficiency of Wei Qi (defensive Qi) with spontaneous sweating, susceptibility to colds, allergies, and weakened immune function.
Signs & Symptoms:
Frequent colds or upper respiratory infections, spontaneous sweating (especially with minimal exertion), aversion to wind, shortness of breath, fatigue, pale complexion, weak voice, allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion or runny nose, loose stools, a pale tongue with thin white coating, and a floating, weak pulse.
Actions of the Main Herbs:
Huang Qi (Astragalus root) strongly tonifies Qi, especially Wei Qi, stabilizes the exterior, and helps prevent spontaneous sweating and susceptibility to pathogens. It is a key herb for immune support and fatigue.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodes macrocephala) strengthens the Spleen, supports Qi production, and helps to stabilize the exterior by improving overall energy and fluid metabolism.
Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia root) dispels wind and helps prevent invasion of external pathogens while also relieving symptoms such as itching and mild aches.
Together, these herbs tonify Qi, stabilize the exterior, and help the body resist external pathogens while reducing excessive sweating.
Dosage & Course of Treatment:
Take 8–12 pills, three times daily, 30–60 minutes away from meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on practitioner guidance. For preventive or chronic use, treatment may be continued for several weeks to months depending on the individual’s condition.
Ingredients:
– Astragalus membranaceus, root (黃芪, Huang Qi)
– Atractylodes macrocephala, rhizome (白朮)
– Saposhnikovia divaricata, root (防風, Fang Feng)
(Formulations may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer, sometimes including additional supporting herbs.)
Cautions & Contraindications:
Use with caution in individuals with external pathogenic excess (e.g., active infections with fever) unless guided by a practitioner. Not suitable in cases of strong internal heat or Yin deficiency with heat signs unless modified. Caution when used alongside immunosuppressive or other medications affecting immune function. Not recommended during pregnancy without professional supervision.
Practitioner-only product:
A consultation is recommended prior to use to ensure the formula is appropriate for the individual’s pattern diagnosis.
